- On last year's excellent House Of Woo, Future Times label boss and Beautiful Swimmers member Maxmillion Dunbar further improved his knack for combining raw percussion with beautiful keys and woodwind. This single for DJ Haus's Hot Haus imprint pulls a similar trick, and pulls it well. Highlife's constant ingredient is a flinty breakbeat, around which Dunbar weaves a pacy and incredibly pretty synth line and the odd bit of fuzzed-out bass. It's both extremely simple and extremely evocative.
L.I.E.S. affiliate Willie Burns has been on the crest of a wave for some time now, and he does as excellent a job on his remix. On it he remodels the original's fluttering synth line, adds twinkling pads and subtle bass, and pushes the breakbeat into the heat-haze of the track's background, producing a blissful rework that could have fit snugly into his "early street techno trance" mix from last year.
