Subliminal Winter Sessions mixed by Erick Morillo

  • He's back - bet you didn't even notice he'd been away though, as Erick Morillo must surely be one of the busiest DJs in dance music. As if to prove his Subliminal label does all seasons, he dons his winter plumage to bring us a pair of tough, no-nonsense house mixes. For me this comfortably eclipses his last compilation for the Subliminal label, as Winter Sessions goes straight for the jugular with LT Brown, Monkey Bars and CZR. Monkey Bars' dub version of 'Pass You By' is a chunky slice of house, while Smooth & J's 'Get Naked' is a perfect example of the bouncy, funky house Morillo champions so well. By the time JJ Flores and Steve Smooth crop up with 'Release' the party is in full swing, and reaches its zenith with the massive Superchumbo anthem 'This Beat Is', guaranteed to rock any club, especially when it's tagged onto Benny Benassi's 'Satisfaction'. Overlapping, these two combine to trump anything else on the disc. CD2 picks up where the first leaves off, with E Rock's sexy houser 'Quiver', David Guetta's Ibiza arm raiser 'A Little More Love' and Camel Riders' 'Twisted' pushing exactly the right vocal buttons. There's also Subliminal material from Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero and a very good Lee-Cabrera remix of Li'l Mo Ying Yang's 'Reach'. Thick Dick and Robbin Thieves ensure the mix goes out with a bang. It just goes to prove the summer needn't have all the best tunes!
