- With a burgeoning clubnight and agency under its belt, it was only a matter of time before Toi Toi started a record label. Following a particularly enjoyable gig in 2012, Mr. G was so impressed with the London-based party that he dedicated a track to them on a subsequent Bassculture release. Several months later and the love continues to flow, with the tech house veteran now inaugurating the imprint.
"Mango And Rum" gets the EP off to a rugged start. Distorted kicks form a choppy terrain, embellished by whistles, dramatic stabs and a steamy female vocal. Redolent of that 5 AM club haze, it teems with life. Daze Maxim, a Toi Toi regular, sharpens the edges with his remix, tightening the drums for a sleeker but less charismatic interpretation. "Side Swing" places us firmly back on Mr. G's smoky, peak-time floor. A wonderfully frisky bassline does most of the work, while some simple synths enrich this potent DJ tool. Saving the best till last, "Feeling" signs off in a forceful billow of breaths, warm gurgles and the occasional cry of "I – Love - You Baby!"
