Adesse Versions - In The Dark

  • So here comes Adesse Versions brandishing a clutch of edits, just as he did 18 months ago. The two versions of "In The Dark" are reworks of Vikter Duplaix's "Manhood" that transform the jerky broken beat of the original into rolling deep house. Duplaix's rich, groaning synths remain but are augmented by echo-drenched handclaps, muted kicks and a single, repetitive piano note. Of the two versions the dub works best, its vocal used teasingly, echoing the thrusting lyrical theme. "Justified" attacks an instantly recognizable track: Madonna's "Justify My Love." There are hints of A Sagittariun's recent old school experiments, especially the subtle, undulating breakbeat that underpins it. It almost feels like it fell off the original remix package. "Freaks Of The Industry" completes the EP, although there's some mystery here. If it's an edit, what's it of? Its creator won't say. Whatever the answer, it takes a snaking bassline, adds disco glitter and passes it through dub filters. Like the rest of the EP, its mood is refreshingly understated.
