Reverse Communter - Direction EP

  • Hallucination Limited has been one of the finest labels in the last year or so, always releasing quality. This time Reverse Commuter deliver the goods for the label with a very unique collection in the Direction EP. Firstly on the a-side is the very brilliant production, The Direction (vox). It begins with a great drum pattern and synthy effects, all over a deliciously deep baseline. The vocals of Terryn Westbrook then take over and its all very good from here on. The production works very well with the vocals, as the drums react to the vocal line, and various effects are applied to good measure. A highlight of this EP. Following is Dongle Solitaire. A down tempo production that features some great swirly effects and a subtle piano line. The drums are also very deep and driving, but on the whole this is a very unique and stylish production, a great indication of the talents of Reverse Commuter. On the flip is firstly Redirected (Dubloner Remix). This is essentially a dub of The Direction, and is a 4/4 reinterpretation that features the beautiful effects and sounds of the original mix. The vocal is filtered and cut up, not featuring as much as the original, however, it seems that new vocal elements that did not feature in the original are present. It is a great reworking though, and it maintains a great deep flow throughout. Untouchable is next up and it is the quirkiest piece on the EP by far. The drums are scattered and the effects on the track are used in abundance. Vocal effects ride in and out of the track as does a slow baseline, and the drums change shape and direction throughout. A cheeky little number this. Brilliant stuff here and a EP that must get a look in. Diversity with all tracks on the EP, and some tracks that will get constant play.
