- Along with Acido Records and Sex Tags Mania, SUED is part of an odd little family of Berlin labels making very out-there house music. All of the artists in this crew release each other's music and jam together regularly—SVN, who runs SUED, has made more records with Dynamo Dreesen of Acido (under the name Dreesvn) than either artist has produced on his own. On SUED006 (all of the label's releases are untitled), SVN teams up with DJ Fett Burger of Sex Tags Mania under the name XI.
SUED006 is the label's most straightforward EP so far, with two versions of a dubby, understated techno track. Both have a soothing underwater feel, complete with what could be whales or dolphins cooing (after the junglescape that was "Burger Trip," it's tempting to pin this on Fett Burger). On the "Beat Session," this atmosphere is shot through with crisp and delicate analog drums (SVN's calling card), creating a dreamy but upbeat club track. The "Dub Session" is entirely beatless, leaving the bassline and soothing textures to do all the work. In the final stretch of both versions, a cosmic whooshing sound cascades across the mix, bringing the whole thing to a climax. Both versions achieve something very different, and show the subtle touch that makes SUED so good.
