Markus Homm & Leo Leal - Space Cowboy EP

  • Having inaugurated Leo Leal's Unike Muzik label last year with What Do They Want, Romanian-born Markus Homm joins forces with the Mexican up-and-comer for a collaborative outing on Colludo Records. The title track is a formidable slice of dance floor tech house. A chunky and effortlessly groovy kick-and-bass-combo form its core, which is supplemented by regular synth stabs. Uncomplicated and well produced, it's an airtight DJ tool. Italian-Peruvian producer Martin Patiño ups the tempo several notches while throwing in disco riffs and uplifting chords on his remix. The result is a little syrupy, but playable given the right context. "Spy" lies at the other end of the spectrum. As faint brushstrokes tiptoe across a gruff bed of rolling kicks and claps, it feels as if the A-side was from a different producer altogether. Though "Spy" is markedly deeper and duskier, both tracks are infectious without drawing on tried and tested dance floor tropes.
