- Funkineven and Kyle Hall both operate on the edges of their respective genres. Their music together as Funkinevil blends Hall's leftfield Detroit house with Funkineven's boogie synth jams into a satisfying whole. Their second EP on Hall's Wild Oats, which comprises four analogue techno tracks, picks up where their debut, Night / Dusk, left off, steering well clear of artificially perfected dance music for something altogether more vital.
The main tracks are framed by drumless synth jams with robot vocals and great dynamic range. The high-octane "Ignorant" pairs a squelchy bassline with rich acid and slapping 808s, closing in a violent crescendo of drum machine hits. The simmering machine funk of "In The Grid" is less forceful but just as raw, its plump synth chords and clattering percussion a fine example of the two producers' styles working in synergy.
