- Few have been as prolific across the techno/house divide as Matthew "Bushwacka!" Benjamin over the past decade or so. Here he continues to break in his Just Be alias with Growler, a package that unites him with Detroit mainstay Stacey Pullen and Nicole Moudaber's Mood Records. The lead track quickly cuts to the chase, overwhelming bouncy synth pings and abstract drums with tommy gun snare rolls and a brief breakdown. DJs should think of it as a mid-set pacesetter rather than a peak-time bomb.
Such is his relative anonymity these days, Stacey Pullen's remix is a point of intrigue. It starts off with menace, all jackhammer beats and fierce handclaps, and eventually settles into a rolling yet still urgent groove comprised of steely drums, pogoing bass and scuttling synths. "The French Connection" sprawls out across eight minutes. It's less subtle than the other tracks but makes good use of spacey keys and metallic percussion that sounds like a tin windmill in a gale.
