Neinzer - And Again / Rump

  • When you start a vinyl-only label, it helps to already know your way around the industry. Run by Michael Pote-Hunt and Dave Gamble, two friends with a professional understanding of the London scene, Yumé (Japanese for dreams) opens its accounts with two tracks from debutant South London producer Neinzer. Given the diverse influences of the label managers (Gamble is the promotions manager at fabriclive) it comes as little surprise that "And Again" and "Rump" are contrasting tracks. The former begins with a body of percussion set over firm kicks, and unfolds with expansive synths and a rollicking bassline. The true spark, however, is the rough, chiming melody that assertively rides the record's choppy groove. Catchy and fresh, it's got serious underground anthem potential. "Rump" is similarly eye-catching. Neinzer takes that same ruffled aesthetic and locks it to a driving techno frame, with various mechanic spirals intertwining. It wraps up a striking debut for both artist and label.
