O F F M S G - Hott / Theme

  • Tom Mangan's clothing label, Millionhands, proved there was life after dance floors for the DJ and producer, but it seems the music was only lurking in the background. Millionhands Music's second EP welcomes back O F F M S G after their outing on Millionhands Black, its edit-focussed sub-label, in March, with two house tracks that nod heavily towards edits. A-side "Hott" has a wandering lead and a repeated phrase, lifted subtly from Karen Young's "Hot For You," that slowly dissolve into a break where the main vox jerks into view over a low-end growl. Carefully adding layers—a phased pad, the reappearing lead, cascading toms and a scratchy synth—"Hott" is unashamedly epic disco-flavored house. "Theme" is much tighter and more focussed, with a repeated chord underpinned by stripped-back percussion and a bright stab. Re-pitched vocals and shimmering notes provide colour in an otherwise tracky number that evokes a chugging, early '90s New York sound.
