- Danny Ward hedges his bets by using both his best-known production traits on "Church!" The twisted, funk-flavoured deep house for which the Mancunian has become renowned—and which earned him that tongue-in-cheek nickname—leans heavily on an adroit use of samples. This two-sider for Crosstown Rebels sub-label Rebellion is no exception.
"Church!" takes a spiritual-leaning spoken word excerpt and lays it across a bed of nagging keyboard loops, handclaps and just a hint of staccato guitar. In some respects it's a contemporary twist on late '90s French house, and it's similarly in thrall to all things Detroit. Ashley Beedle doesn't change much—hence "revision" rather than remix—but the extra deep funk stylings of the version maintains X-Press 2 man's recent studio renaissance.
