Borai - Moonlight On The Malago

  • Boris English, AKA Borai, has been entrenched in the Bristol scene for the better part of a decade, but it's been only in the last couple of years that he's established himself as a producer. Collaborative outings on BRSTL, Apple Pips and Never Learnt have led towards this first solo EP, on nascent Argot sub-label Tasteful Nudes. Plump, balmy chords confidently announce Borai's solo arrival. They're supported by stocky kicks and a meaty, rolling bassline. Intricate synths twist and shout playfully in the background, leaving plenty of room for the track's central piano to run its quasi-celestial course. "Moonlight On The Malago" falls nothing short of sublime through its timeless FM chords and robust drum programming, while "Does It Bother You" sets off down a more familiar path, laying classic house stabs over a thickset groove. Fusing broad pads with rippling synths, Borai coats his framework in an alluring organic mist, managing to cultivate a sound that feels both strong and sensitive.
