a/jus/ted - A Brighter Light feat. Jeremy Glenn

  • Not many DJ/producers have a résumé like Justin Strauss's. In a career spanning over 30 years, he's performed at some of New York City's most celebrated venues, from Limelight to Tunnel, and produced or remixed the great and good, from LCD Soundsystem to Tina Turner. a/just/ted is Strauss's nascent production partnership with studio engineer-turned-remixer Teddy Stuart. Their debut, A Brighter Light, is a sparky, no-nonsense deep house cut with an old school flavor that's largely down to Jeremy Glenn's big room vocal chops. It's pleasant enough, but doesn't really get interesting until the last couple of minutes, when a 909 drum pattern elbows its way in. Things are ratcheted up a notch on Lars Vegas' mix. In keeping with his work as one half of Detroit Swindle, he sends it off to New Jersey, via Amsterdam, by filling it with quaking bass stabs, high-stepping percussion and muscular kicks. The "Re a/jus/ted" remix sheds a significant amount of Glenn's vocal, outscoring the original in the process by twisting it into a scowling dub that rattles along on a steam train rhythm.
