Luke Solomon - Beyond Therapy Vol.1

  • Luke Solomon's previous appearance on Fullbarr came almost a year ago to the day, Ultrasound being one of its early 12-inch excursions. Beyond Therapy Vol.1 features four house tracks that position themselves inside a dark, sweaty basement. "Crash Beat"'s opening four-note salvo provides a constant around which the rest of the track evolves. Offbeat kicks and claps jostle with crisp snares and hats, driving the percussion forward until the introduction of acid stabs. "Hoover Bag" follows a looser template. At its core is a repeating bassline and stuttering snares, over which distorted, wobbling notes cascade, with delay and reverb serving as lighter rays in its murky depths. "Look Back" is the brightest of the four, moving from blocky hits, white noise and rides to mumbled vox and a warm two-tone chord pattern. "Pop Rocks" closes out a fine EP, a driving, lo-fi cut that swaps bass growl for a slippery 303, one moment clean and shimmering, the next submerged in FX.
