- There's little wrong with Arash's brand of snaking, velvety house. On "Distant Voices," the Frankfurt-bred producer dresses the linear groove with spitting congas, cosmic swirls and drawn-out reverb. "Mind Game" cruises on a slow pulse of moody FX and echo-drenched percussion. The old-school East Coast house flavour of the digital-only cut, "Intimacy Mood," is perhaps the most interesting of Arash's triumvirate, but while it's technically proficient, neatly constructed and functional, it doesn't quite spark the imagination.
The two remixes exhibit considerably more spunk. Shade's take on "Distant Voices" uses a shimmering throb as its bedrock, on top of which the Parisian lays a grinding b-line and spacey Terje-disco trills. Rising Brit talent Jordan Peak offers more evidence of his production prowess with his re-rub of "Mind Game." Coming across like a mini Tom Middleton, he lays down a deep, swollen synth drone before injecting a high-stepping garage swing, beefy drum patterns and idiosyncratic percussive drop-ins. It's fantastically moreish.
