Evans and Waterfall - 0.01

  • Sheffield based duo Evans and Waterfall have been busy bubbling under the surface for some time now, occasionally cropping up on esteemed imprints such as Monique Musique, Viva and Fear of Flying. Their inaugural release for Evans' recently launched Dilate imprint sees them capitalise on this early promise, with the simply titled "0.01" a sumptuous affair that shrewdly plays on their warm and deep sensibilities. The original is the pick of the bunch, with its ominous bassline the perfect foil to a horde of wobbling chords and space-tinged synths. The warped vocal plays a prevalent role too, with its enticing lyrics only adding to the overall sense of welcoming weirdness. LA's Droog supply a remix that's very much in keeping with their background, with their interpretation crafted on a much lighter, sun-drenched tip. It too, is worth basking in, with its pitched-back aesthetic a welcome riposte to the original's more downtrodden soundscape. One Records boss Adam Shelton offers a similarly bouncy, tech house underbelly to the type that coursed throughout his now ubiquitous remix of Ben Pearce's "What I Might Do."
