Hieroglyphic Being - The Lost Transmission EP

  • There's a note on Juno about Hieroglyphic Being's The Human Experience that explains they "cannot accept returns on this item due the deliberately poor sound quality." No such notice appears on The Lost Transmissions. I'm unsure how much "cleaner" it sounds. But it certainly can rock a floor. I saw Doser label owner Morphosis playing the A-side to this, "The Lost Transmissions," at Panorama Bar and a good majority of people lost their shit. The kick is heavy and the typically crusty synth work moves further and further toward freakout territory the longer the track plays. It takes plenty of time to get there, a healthy 15 minutes, but it's worth every second. "The Cosmic BeBop" has a hiss that smothers the opening bit, and it only gets wackier from there. The incongruously jaunty piano line sounds like it's being played about two feet underwater. A kick eventually hits, but by that time you feel like you're caught in some sort of Chicago haunted house. It's the type of track that ought to come with a warning: "We cannot accept returns on this item due to its psychoactive properties."
