Tensnake feat. Syron - Mainline

  • In a year where bare-faced '90s dance floor revivalism has been given full rein by the likes of Bicep, Tensnake plugs in the patch marked "F Knuckles" for this bout of brash, camp retro house. The Hamburg producer is aided and abetted in this task by striking young south London chanteuse Syron. Looking like Human League's Susan Sulley, with the old school vocal style of Alison Limerick, she contributed memorably to Rudimental's wondrous garage-leaning deep house track "Spoons" earlier this year. If you're looking for highly-nuanced, groundbreaking future house with "Mainline" then move along now. The clattering snare drum rolls, fizzing 909 drums, spanking synths and cheesy top melody is redolent of the sort of tune that fuelled the UK's provincial clubs in the mid-'90s. Yet, despite the intensity of rising star Syron's performance, the deeper dub mix has probably got more legs. Dubby keys (naturally), booming bass synths, pared down percussion and mere snatches of the vocal are left—and all the better for it.
