Adam Berecki - Westpark Trax EP

  • It's difficult to reconcile Adam Berecki's youth—the Dortmund producer is just 22—with the adroit arrangement of both tracks on Westpark Trax, especially "Nobody." Here, the subdued congas of the opening bars get increasingly smothered by Italo-style piano stabs, handclaps delivered just on the offbeat. You also get two breakdowns for your hard-earned; the first subtle, the second of the elongated kind, teasing you with a vocal loop before igniting in a whirl of tough drums and even spunkier pianos. The flip, "No Bitchin" (how does that translate into German?) is more of a rough and tumble affair. A heads-down, dubby chugger of waspish synths and slapping percussion, if "Nobody" could easily rock up on Defected, this would sound at home on Crosstown Rebels. All hail Dennis Ferrer, then, for getting his teeth into the talented Berecki first.
