- "As Smells Like Gasoline" joyously attests across ten minutes—it rattles along so ecstatically, it feels less than half of that—Mungolian Jetset’s Pål Nyhus and Knut Sævik are every bit a vital cog in the 21st century disco wheel as their pal Todd Terje. There's no stinting here as hugely emotive Italo pianos do battle with wobbly analogue phrases and spanking dubby tom-toms collide with tripped-out synth whooshes, before petering out to the soothing tinkle of Tibetan singing bowls.
You pity the remixes tacked on to the package, to be honest. That said, Dan Lissvik's take on "We Are the Shining" from the Mungo boys' 2011 album Schlungs is a mildly diverting foray, melting together a vocoder, indie guitars and whooping, ravey electro. Skatebård's approach to the same track fares better, twisting it into a retro mélange of Felix-style stabs, '80s synth pop and a rhythm that sounds like a Hi-NRG track knocked back by 20 BPM. They are mere amuse-bouches, however, for the sumptuous banquet that is "Smells Like Gasoline."
