- For many techno fetishists, 2011's Mod from Jonsson & Alter was one of the year's strongest albums, an engaging blend of melodic beauty and raw, analog thump. Back on Sweden's Kontra-Musik with their first original material of this year, the For You EP once again finds them in impressive form.
The A-side is one of their catchiest tracks to date. Cleaner and more accessible than anything found on Mod, it builds itself around an intertwined synth line and vocal melody that despite having few coherent words other than the occasional gasp of "What you feel" remains locked in your brain long after the record has ended. It comes across as light-hearted, but not throwaway—the kind of tune you'd end up whistling on the hazy walk back from the club.
"Ljuset" is less about the hooks and more about a slow build of tension, demonstrating the duo's obvious attention to the subtle development of percussion, with a shifting canvas of blinking comets and lunar radiance providing the attention-grabbing backdrop.
