Luca Lozano - B.o.n.e.s. EP

  • Klasse boss and former Zombie Disco Squad trouper Luca Lozano—Lucas Hunter to his nearest and dearest—spent the winter beavering away in Berlin working on music. It must have been a cold one this year, as Lozano has clearly spent time honing his laser-guided tech house. "Soul123" is formed around a core of ice-cool, twinkling pads and gentle 808 claps that pitter-patter demurely until they dissipate, dashed on the rocks of a tough synth bassline. "Skeleton Keys" comes at you like some twisted take on the theme to The Third Man; building from stabs of electronic zither, it blooms into flower, accompanied by the whoosh of filtered synths, dubby echoes and a clanging digital bassline, culminating in a breakbeat flurry as the track breaks down. The name of the final track—"Fakie Snot Bubble"—is not only title of the month but a ramping up of the pace. In part. A jacked groove and muted, compressed hi-hats do their best to fly off into the stratosphere, only to be brought back to earth to the accompaniment of banks of meadow-lush deep house synths. An EP for those who like drama in their house music.
