Petre Inspirescu - Marcel Si Fiii

  • Two new cuts from Petre Inspirescu? It's about time. Since his highly regarded album on [a:rpia:r], Inspirescu has been fairly quiet; a few remixes here and there and his (underrated) work under his πEnsemble moniker have left his fans baying for more. Thankfully, he returns here in full stride. Both tracks lean towards the dancier side of his work, but refrain from being as abstract as their peers on Intr-o Seara Organica. What they lack in subtlety, they more than make up for in terms of progression. The clicks, pops and percussion in "Vrednik" patter along while Inspirescu fades in the various melodic elements, one of which sounds like the rim of a crystal glass harmonizing with a horn section. "Crosetul," the darker of the two tracks, uses a high drone in the background to create a sense of uneasiness while bells and metallic objects klang out a rhythm. Not your standard club fodder but definitely one for moving the 8 AM zombies into a frenzy. As with a lot of minimal, the temptation to use odd sound sources can often lead to a track's detriment. On this EP however, Inspirescu manages to use all the otherworldly sounds he wants, and still comes off sounding classy and well-composed.
