Tocharian - Arcadia / Awakening

  • Tocharian first made his impact with the brilliant 'Lacuna', which received massive support from the likes of Sasha, Digweed, and featured on Jimmy Van M's Bedrock compilation. He returns with what can only be described as a stunning release for Intrinsic, featuring two quality tracks. On the A-side is Arcadia, a track which received airplay from a certain John Digweed on his Kiss FM radio show. A nicely paced drum loop opens the track up as a nice and dark baseline gives the production a little edge early on. Effects rise and fall into the track as a subtle melody sprinkles around the production as it slowly builds. Midway in, the track breaks down to a halt and welcomes a beautiful melody that we were teased with only a minute or two earlier. The melody meets a lovely piano line, as the baseline and beats all merge to take the track into a frenzy. This has dancefloor written all over it. Another winner from Tocharian. On the flip is Awakening, a track which opened up disc two of Nick Warren latest Global Underground. Again the track opens up with a solid beat and swirling effects. A more subtle baseline than its brother on the flip is used, however, the track has a great drive and energy early on. A stabbing vocal effect builds the production to the halfway point where it breaksdown in stunning fashion. A beautiful warm melody immerses itself amongst soothing strings for a few moments before the beats meet the atmospheric surroundings. The track then fades out leaving you convinced as to why Warren opened his GU 2nd disc with this. A very welcome release this one. A return of melody for the progressive faithful who should welcome this release with open arms, and rejoice in the fact that music like this is still being made!
