- Toon based producers, Echomen, get a re-release of their 2001 production, 'Thru 2 You' on the Hooj label. For those who may have missed the Airtight release, the 2003 release comes with an all new Nova Scotia and a Dolphins Mix, as well as the Bushwacka! mix that complimented the original release. Following a very successful outing on SAW, with the massive 'Perpetual', many get to see what they missed out on with another vocal monster in 'Thru 2 You'.
On the A-side of disc one is Nova Scotia’s Concrete Remix. From the word go, a deep and throbbing baseline takes control as funky little elements creep in and out. A beautiful guitar riff is the feature of this remix as all the elements of the production gel with great effect. The vocal hangs around the production in little snippets but isn’t a major element one may feel. The track continues to flow for a few minutes as the guitar riff increases in presence, and almost has an early new order feel to it. Brilliant remix.
On the flip is a mighty remix from Bushwacka!. The drums have a pretty standard feel to them as the track slowly builds early. Eerie screeches enter the track as do subtle little effects all around the place as the track builds to a weird and unique baseline deep into the production. The baseline then meets some well built drums that essentially make up the meat of the production as it then abruptly fades out.
On the A-side of disc two is the Dolphins’ Electrock Mix. As the name suggests, this remix takes an electro approach from the outset. It almost has a rock approach with the screeching guitars that seem to work well with the deeply embedded baseline that is used well with tone changes. The vocal is used more than it is in any of the other remixes, and it all blends well, especially when the hypnotic melodies enter the production. Its quite an interesting remix, and worthy addition to the release.
The Original Vocal Mix is unusually on the b-side of disc two. The trademark smooth baselines of Echomen are heard in this mix as well as the familiar melodies of their productions. The vocal obviously is the focal point of the production, and despite the track having aged a few years, it continues to sound fresh to this day.
Some fresh mixes give this release some life, and wit the variety of artists chosen here, the mixes are sure to appeal to a wide audience. Worth a look.
