- An unashamed and unabashed love affair with '80s synths is Wildkats' musical bone marrow. After releases on Hot Creations and Stranjjur, a stopover at Barcelona's Hourglass affords the London-based Transatlantic trio of American Corey Baker with Scotsmen Scott Dickie and Stuart Sandeman, a further marketplace for their wares.
With "Tunnel Visions," there's little hint of the mayhem to come—aside from some intermittent '80s synth attacks—before the track opens up into a neo-disco march of glitterball pads and sequined bass stabs. "You're a Freak" is barrelling, housey, breakbeat funk, best used as one of those transitional DJ tools hinting that things are about to get even tougher.
"You're a Freak" is given what Barcelona-based producer Sishi Rosch calls a "gangsta disco" makeover. It's an apposite description, with Rosch fashioning a dirty, pinging bassline motif and menacing pads, all sharp elbows and glowering evils. Given its unique approach, it's the most intriguing of these three offerings.
