- It wasn’t too long ago that I reviewed the mix release of Le Future Le Funk and gave it a very impressive 9 out of 10. The mix was a collection of dancefloor tunes that gelled to produce one of the highlight releases of this year. Well for the budding DJ’s, the release comes in an unmixed 2 vinyl package, and it includes the highlight cuts from the mix. 11 tracks crammed onto 2 black slabs.
Disc one – Side A
Danmass – “Haze” (Danmass Remix)
Starting the vinyl pack off is the quirky beats off ‘Haze’. It must be said that this was a definite highlight from the mix. The electro baseline takes hold early on as a peculiar sample enters the tune. The beauty comes in the brilliant electro melody of this track that is sure to put a smile on anyone’s face. Great track.
Soul Mekanik – “C’Mon Over”
The beautiful fading strings of this track are the key with this record. Nicely paced beats meet a subtle yet bouncy baseline while the strings come in and out. Used brilliantly as a late set track in the cd mix.
Side B
Mirwais – “Miss You” (LRD Thin White Duke mix)
Baseline. All that needs to be said about this damn sexy mix by Les Rhytmes. The snares caress the baseline while the familiar vocals of Craig Wedren filter in and out, while the squeaky electro melody comes in late into the track. Short but very sweet this track, and a more then welcome addition to the pack.
KV:5 – “So Far”
One of the smoother additions to the vinyl pack, ‘So Far’ uses a broken beat with a smooth and not too empowering vocal. A subtle, but well thought out baseline is used to great affect.
Oko – “Because”
The casio like melody is the key feature with this track as it takes full control early. Beautifully arranged synths then meet as filtered vocals subtly caress the elements. Another highlight of the mix included on the vinyl pack. Superb.
Disc Two - Side A
Mekon – “Please Stay” (Royksopp Mix)
Not much needs to be said about this record. Highlight tune from the last few years, Royksopp work their magic with a flowing retro melody, effected vocals and a electro spine keeping the track upright. Stunning piece of work.
Bunch of Gurus – “Punk Cake” (Dub Mix)
A dark and twisted tune this and it fucken rocks. A driving base is met with a subtle yet enticing melody. Cut up vocal snippets are thrown for good measure to form a great record.
Audio Bullys – “Real Life”
Many would know about this record with the growing popularity of the Audio Bullys. The strong electro baseline meets a screechy melody as the vocals then increase in intensity. Not bad at all.
Side B
Brooks – “Dripping in Gold”
One for the funky files this one. A deeper house feel to this with the vocals and the nicely arranged baseline. Short but sweet as they say this record.
Subway – “Testing”
Smooth strings meet with a subtle base early on in this tune a the strings then introduce a arpeggiated melody midway into the track. The beats then merge with the melody to great effect. Welcome addition to the crew this track without a doubt.
Metro Area – “Caught Up”
A definite highlight tune to conclude the vinyl pack. We know the talents of Metro Area, and they don’t disappoint with ‘Caught Up’. The slow beats and familiar baseline patterns meet with smooth piano effects. The stunning violin like melody then takes over with brilliant effect.
