Marc Antona - One More Sugar

  • According to current consensus this must be soulless bland by-the-numbers minimal nonsense that has had the life crushed out of it by evil digital technology. But what’s the point of dance music? To be ‘advanced’? To be fashionable? To be analogue? Okay, newcomer Marc Antona doesn’t really push any boundaries here, and yes it sounds quite a lot like a million other releases. But it’s still twitchy and danceable and on its own terms is a reasonably successful record. It’s three tracks of straight-up minimal, with an almost acid techno-y aggressive edge to it, particularly in the way the beats pause before slamming back in on the first bar of a phrase. It’s got a decent groove, albeit with slightly cheap-sounding production. And against the benchmark of ‘can you dance to it’, which is surely the one that matters most, yes you could dance to it.
