Akkord - Navigate

  • Having come to prominence through two sought-after white labels, Akkord appeared on a split EP released through Rob Booth's Electronic Explorations imprint back in October of last year. So when fabric announced that Booth would helm their Houndstooth label, it was little surprise to see the Mancunian collective—now sized down to a duo—onboard. Akkord have roots in sound design, and this is easily detectable in the clarity running throughout the cavernous title track. "Compound" is texturally similar but there's less space, with a rattling carriage of tribal percussion lending some buoyancy. "Destruction" is less arresting, but is still beautifully chiseled. "Title Sequence" feels like a score, and is steeped in absorbing serenity. Navigate marks the strongest EP to date from a new label going from strength-to-strength.
