  • There are few people who know more about the dark art of promoting parties in Ibiza than Johannes Goller. For the past 17 years, he's helped Sven Väth run Cocoon at Amnesia, the pioneering Monday residency that introduced a harder, deeper strain of techno to the White Isle in 1999. The story of how Goller got involved is a typical one: on a break from his butchery studies in Germany, he visited the island, had a blast and told his father his path in life lay elsewhere. Initially, he'd help out wherever he was needed—driving DJs, organising afterparties, answering the phone—until eventually he got a say in the bookings. Throughout the '00s, he and Väth transformed Cocoon from an outlier night into one of the best-known house and techno events on the planet, a reputation it still holds today. At the tail-end of the party's 18th season, Carlos Hawthorn visited Goller at Cocoon's leafy HQ for a candid conversation about Ibiza's glorious past and its more challenging present.
