Resident Advisor and Aus will be teaming up early next month to present Lee Jones' London launch for his new full-length, Electronic Frank.
Jones, the producer of one the most commented upon podcasts of 2008, will be in the RA lounge along with Aus label head Will Saul in a night that is surely going to be one to remember: It'll be the last time that either of them will play at the club.
We grabbed Saul for a moment to talk about Lee's album and the upcoming night.
Why did you select Lee Jones to do an album for your label?
I’ve been asking Lee to do an album as soon as we started working with him and Nick on the My My Butterflies & Zebras EP on Aus—which was the second release on the label and about two years ago. For me, he has a truly original sound. As soon as you hear one of his tracks you know it’s him (or My My). His music is very detailed and intricate with a lot of subtlety and musicality. It’s perfectly suited to an album context. We were joking together about him doing either a dark, heavy techno album or a dubstep album next....but you know I really wouldn’t mind either from him as he has the ability as a producer to nail pretty much any style he attempts.
What's your expectation of the night in The RA Lounge musically with the two of you at the helm?
His first live show as Lee Jones went down really well at Watergate a few weeks ago so I’m sure Lee will rock it. Expect to hear the album but a bit more stripped back and re-worked for the dance floor. I will be playing lots of lush, deep disco and house before him then getting a bit more jacking after he finishes. It’s our last party at The End before it closes so there will be lots of friends and great vibe—should be a lot of fun.
Elsewhere, Layo & Bushwacka! will take over the main room, while Jimpster and some of his Freerange friends will make AKA their own.
