  • Jake Fairley mixes techno with pop on his new album on James Holden's Border Community label. With a background in rock music, Jake Fairley has always made techno music with pop leanings. His live sets are very much performances, emcompassing distorted synths, rock intensity and even the odd cover version of 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' to boot. His more personal project Fairmont is a gentler affair. Fairley first made waves under the name with the 'Gazebo/Gazelle' 12" on Border Community, the same label his debut album arrives on. Like previous BC longplayers from Nathan Fake and James Holden, 'Coloured in Memory' promises to marry dance music to other genres; the album features such hybrids as surf-rock vs. electro ('Bikini Atoll'), art rock vs. trance ('I Need Medicine') and folk vs. hip-hop ('Calm Before The Storm'). 'Coloured in Memory' tracklist 1. Fade To Saturate 2. Darling Waltz 3. Mobula 4. Pomegranate 5. Sedative For The Sentimental 6. I Need Medicine 7. Bikini Atoll 8. 1995 9. Calm Before The Storm 10.
