Second mix CD by London house jock Paul Jackson is out July 31. ‘It’s Only a Mixtape Vol. 2’ was proudly made by hand.
Jackson is known for his productions on Defected/Underwater, particularly his progressive house hit ‘The Push’, as well as tunes of Dave Seaman’s progressive label Audio Therapy. He has also DJed all over the world, holding down residencies in Ibiza, Madrid, Valencia and at the The Ministry Of Sound in London. Latest mix on MOS ‘It’s Only a Mixtape Vol. 2’ promises a handmixed feel as well as a handpainted cover:
“I chose twenty or so tracks that have been doing the rounds in my CD wallet for a while and mixed it at home, in one take, warts and all,” Jackson told Jonty Skrufff. “I then got my felt tip pens out, did some drawings on the cover and sent it all back to Ministry. The whole concept was to do a mix CD that was back to basics and as far away as possible from the computer mixed over-slick hype machines that a majority of compilations have become.”
Paul recently started his own label ‘Dozer’, which boasts new signings The Japanese Popstars, who contribute two tracks to the mix. With offerings from Paul Woolford, Sebastien Leger and Rob Hawk and Mysoul, the mix serves up a nice snapshot of the progressive end of electrohouse, or the electro end of progressive, if you like.
