  • Berliners will now be able to check the composition and purity of their drugs after a new drug-testing project was given the green light. The project, run by The State Institute for Forensic and Social Medicine, has finally been implemented after years of discussion, according to rbb. Results are expected to be given roughly three days after submission. It's not the first time a drug-testing project has been implemented in Berlin. Recreational drugs were being tested as early as the mid-'90s during Love Parade's heyday. Berlin revellers "have a great interest in consuming healthily and less harmfully," said Ulrike Scherling, facility manager at one of the three counselling centres in the city that will be doing the testing. The earliest reported drug-checking activity began in Amsterdam in 1970. The likes of Spain, France, Switzerland and Austria soon followed. In 2008, a database compiling European drug-checking services, known as the Trans-European Drug Information, was launched. Find out more about the database here.
