- Aux 88, Black Rave Culture and more will be teaching classes at the new space.
Underground Music Academy and charity 2k Foundations are opening an educational space in Detroit.
Located at 2990 East Grand Boulevard, the studio will be unveiled with a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, March 25th. The first class will also take place today, hosted by native Michigan musician and educator Diego Perez, who will be encouraging creativity using affordable synths and drum machines. Anyone aged 18 to 25 and living in the Detroit city limits can attend.
"We're more than excited to unveil our state-of-the-art educational studio and kick-start our first in-person programming," said Waajeed, founder and CEO of Underground Music Academy. "This event marks a significant milestone in our journey to empower aspiring musicians and cultivate a thriving music community."
This weekend—which sees the return of Movement Festival—UMA will host six free workshops with popular electronic acts such as Aux 88, Black Rave Culture and Stefan Ringer. There will also be a studio open house and pop-up record shop, with all proceeds going towards the next phase of construction.
As part of Movement, RA is hosting the UMA-curated Respect The Architects exhibit for the second year running. Read our guide to the best satellite parties happening in Detroit this weekend.
