  • A new compilation of UK electro and breaks released between 1995 and 2003 is coming out on June 19th. The first release on London label La Escuela Moderna Discos, Tactical Shifts features eight tracks by the likes of Kruton, The Illistines (AKA Keith Tenniswood, Jim Foster and Dave Appleton) and Being, an alias of The Wee DJs (pictured right). La Escuela Moderna Discos is a joint collaboration between Anwar Dawwas, who runs London label Brokntoys, and Joan Gaspar, who DJs as Kinetic. "We got acquainted after Joan invited me to play in Barcelona," Dawwas told Resident Advisor. "We found common ground in our mutual fondness of the late '90s UK club scene. And we began toying with the idea of starting a label soon after." He continued: "Borrowing the name from freethinker Francisco Ferrer i Guardia's La Escuela Moderna, the idea was to put the spotlight on records from a path less trodden. Tactical Shifts is the culmination of a deep dive into our collections that took almost three years to complete, owing to several licensing hurdles, a painstakingly slow pressing and the pandemic."
