  • Notorious Berghain bouncer Sven Marquardt is set to host a photography exhibition at New York Art Week. Running from May 18th through 21st at ArtsDistrict Brooklyn, DISTURBING BEAUTY features a selection of Marquardt's photos from East Berlin in the '80s, before the fall of the wall. It will be preceded by an opening party, in collaboration with local promoter Teksupport, which features sets from Joris Voorn and Akua. "For more than 30 years, club culture has determined both my life, as a curator of countless nights, and of course my life as a photographer," said Marquardt. "In a city in transition after the wild '80s and the fall of the Berlin Wall, I had for the first time put my camera aside. It was at the end of the 1990s that my camera again became a stylistic device for expressing our attitude towards life. Berlin has always been the setting as well as the inspiration for my pictures and projects." Marquardt has previously hosted exhibitions at New York's C24 Gallery, Berlin's Galerie Deschler and Sydney's aMBUSH Gallery, among others. He also recently appeared in John Wick: Chapter 4 as a bouncer called Klaus. Check out the launch party artwork and event listing.
