  • Grimes has created an AI-powered software, Elf.Tech, that generates her voice. Elf.Tech's Chaos Manual states the reason for creating the software: "Integrating Artificial intelligence into God-tech is a necessary step in the path to a society that can pass the great filter," it reads. "AI miracles (such as solving medicine or solving abundance) can easily surpass the miracle capabilities of trad gods." The app is currently in beta mode. With Elf.Tech, users have the option of either uploading audio or recording directly through the app. They'll then receive the output of the file with the pop star's voice instead. Grimes can be listed as a main, secondary or featured artist in any music made using the software in exchange for 50 percent of royalty splits on the master recording. Elf.Tech offers distribution through its platform, but artists may also self-distribute or release through a label. "Feel free to take advantage of the Grimes IP!" the artist tweeted.
"Grimes is now open source and self replicating [sic]," she wrote on Twitter. The app also supplies a folder of downloadable stems, including her vocals from tracks such as "4ÆM," "Oblivion" and "IDORU," that developers can utilise to train their own AI Grimes models. On April 24th, Grimes responded to a viral AI track of Drake and The Weeknd, saying "I'll split 50 percent royalties on any successful AI-generated song that uses my voice. Same deal as I would with any artist I collab with. Feel free to use my voice without penalty. I have no label and no legal bindings." Shortly thereafter, the artist said she and her team would be working on developing Elf.Tech. Along with Elf.Tech's launch, Grimes said she will also be releasing two new songs, "Music For Machines" and "I Wanna Be Software," within the next few weeks. Check out the site below.
