  • Irish software company AudioThing has released an analogue delay based on the Carlsbro Mantis. The plugin is a faithful recreation of the original FX unit, with an identical interface featuring four echo and four swell controls, plus a Rotafaze setting, which modulates the pitch of the delayed signal, creating a woozy effect. The plugin adds a "modern" mode, which allows extended delay times not possible on the original. It also has a randomizer and a patch library. Originally released in 1975, the Carlsbro Mantis was one of the first bucket-brigade delays—a technique for creating an echo that gives a warm, rich and slightly distorted tone. Mantis is available for Mac, PC and Linux, as a VST, VST3, AU, AAX or CLAP file, or as a standalone device, at the introductory price of €39, after which it will be €59.
