  • Kodamo, a French synthesiser manufacturer and sound research lab, is releasing its next synth on March 31st. The MASK1 employs a new sound-synthesis technique called bitmasking, which involves cutting sine waves up into pieces and rearranging them to make complex waveforms. These are then filtered, mixed with noise and processed with effects. Kodamo claims that bitmask synthesis, combined with the MASK1's resonant filters, creates a unique, gritty sound palette. Other features include ten-note polyphony, an inbuilt sequencer and arpeggiator, plus two banks of onboard FX. MASK1 is multitimbral and has a 61-key weighted Fatar keyboard with velocity, aftertouch and polyphonic portamento. Modulation comes from two LFOs that can be routed to 15 mod destinations. Kodamo was founded in 2019 to explore new ways to approach sound synthesis. It has previously released a rackmount synth called the EssenceFM. Watch a teaser for the MASK1.
The MASK1 is available to pre-order now for €1,790.
