  • DJ, producer and scholar King Britt has revealed an exhibit focusing on Afrofuturism in electronic music at the University Of California, San Diego. Running from February 7th through March 25th, Blacktronika: Afrofuturism in Electronic Music spotlights the course of the same name. Taking place at the Geisel Library, the exhibit includes course materials, a selection of vintage and modern electronic instruments, and ephemera associated with the US artist's career and current research. On March 3rd, the exhibit will transform into a pop-up club experience, honouring electronic music's innovators of colour. This will go down on campus at Conrad Prebys Music Center Experimental Theater. According to King Britt, the Blacktronika course explores "the lineage of many of the groundbreaking Black electronic artists who have been integral but overlooked in the development and commodification of house, techno, drum & bass and experimental music." Previous guests include Theo Parrish, Ron Trent, Masters At Work, Flying Lotus, Mad Professor, Elsa M'Bala and Amp Fiddler. Find out more about the exhibit.
