  • Pittsburgh Modular has released a new analogue synth called Taiga. Combining three oscillators plus wave-shaping and wave-folding features, Taiga is designed to offer musicians unconventional sound-design possibilities. Whereas most analogue synths create sound using sawtooth, triangle and square waveforms, Taiga uses cascading wave-shapers and a six-stage wave-folder to warp waveforms over time, adding more complexity and depth to its sonic palate. The Taiga also has a multimode filter, a four-channel mixer with a noise generator and an analogue bucket-brigade delay. Introducing elements of West Coast-style synthesis, it employs a lowpass gate that simulates how sound waves react to their environment, giving tones more depth and presence. 60 patch points give you control over many of these features using CV. There's also a MIDI input in the patch bay and you can integrate the synth into a Eurorack setup. Founded in 2012, Pittsburgh Modular is an independent US synth builder producing highly regarded Eurorack modules. It's made limited runs of desktop synths in the past, such as the Lifeforms SV-1 Blackbox, which Resident Advisor reviewed in 2016. Watch a video on Taiga.
