  • Soundwide, the parent company to a handful of prominent music tech firms, has laid off eight percent of its global workforce. A source at Native Instruments–one of the firms owned by Soundwide–told Resident Advisor that employees were informed of the redundancies at a company-wide meeting on Wednesday, January 25th. During the meeting, Soundwide CEO Rob Singer cited the challenging economic terrain as the primary reason. The sales and marketing departments were more affected than engineering. Soundwide launched in 2022 following the merger of Native Instruments and iZotope. The firm now also encompasses Plugin Alliance, Brainworx and SoundStacks, and said its aim is to develop "the world's most extensive ecosystem of audio creation products." Earlier this week, another music tech giant, Spotify, also confirmed layoffs. Six percent of global staff—around 600 people—will be affected. The company's chief content & advertising officer, Dawn Ostroff, is also leaving. Photo: Jörg Zägel
