- With the 2006 Berlin Love Parade finally given the green light, San Francisco's own Love Parade has been forced to rebrand itself as the Love Fest.
Are you going to San Francisco? The bayside metropolis was among a select group of cities including Santiago, Tel Aviv and Mexico City chosen to continue spreading the spirit of the Berlin Love Parade in the absence of the event in 2004 and 2005.
Last year in San Francisco, thirty-odd floats carrying the likes of Ferry Corsten, DJ Dan, Carl Cox, Lee Burridge and Desyn Masiello wound their way down Market Street joined by some 90,000 revellers.
However with the original Berlin Love Parade confirmed for July this year, the international spinoffs have been forced to furiously rebrand themselves. The Berlin organisation has refused to share the love and licence the name 'Love Parade' as it did in 2004 and 2005.
Taking this rejection in their stride, the San Fransisco Love Parade organisers have wiped away the tears and remain committed to ensuring a similar parade happens this year. They have announced the name of their new squeeze as Love Fest San Francisco.
The new Love Fest San Francisco happens on September 23, 2006. It will follow the same route as the original San Francisco Love Parade from the Ferry Building to the Civic Center Plaza along Market Street.
Despite the makeover, this parade is expected to draw similar crowds to the original. And as always the party will continue on into the night at clubs in and around San Francisco.
