  • Mexican festival Somos has launched a trans scholarship fund to pay for up to 18 trans people to receive free tickets, accommodation and expenses. Running from February 16th through 20th, the festival celebrates queer artists and musicians. It's held on a private beach accessible only by boat, around 30 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta. The trans scholarship is running for the second year in a row. Somos draws in artists and performers from across Latin America, the US and Canada. This year's lineup includes Bears In Space, The Carry Nation, HUNY, Stacy Christine and Perfect Lovers. Attendance is limited to 400 people. The trans scholarship is funded by donations from other festivalgoers. All money raised will go towards flights, transportation and accommodation. Scholarships will be allocated evenly between international and Mexican applicants. For more on the fund or to donate, visit the GoFundMe page. Browse the event page below for the full lineup. Correction, January 18th: A previous version of this article said this is the first year Somos has run the trans scholarship. It's actually the second.
