  • Sheffield-based queer DIY project Gut Level has found a temporary new home after recently being evicted. Within weeks of leaving Snow Lane to make way for luxury flats, the team found a new space on Eyre Street. Called Gut Level 3.0, it's their third venue since the project launched in 2019 to support queer and marginalised genders. The first venue, Attercliffe Arches, closed at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Formerly a morgue, Gut Level 3.0 is now a studio complex with art deco church windows salvaged from the building's basement. There's no late license, meaning all events must finish by 10 PM. "We're really relieved to find a new project space, however the activity there won't be late night focussed," cofounder Hannah Beres told Resident Advisor. "It's a much cosier space that feels more homely in some ways than our last venue." Gut Level 3.0, which is more centrally located, was found via Instagram. Late-night events aren't allowed because the building neighbours a hotel. But Beres said they have ideas on how to continue the party. "We'll be linking up with other DIY spaces in the city that are able to host club nights," she said. "Our new location will be temporary as there's already plans for the building to be redeveloped." While the impact of property development is an ongoing issue for grassroots organisations like Gut Level, the occupation of empty buildings is a temporary solution. Beres said the team are hoping they'll get at least one year at Gut Level 3.0 before moving onto Gut Level 4.0 and, hopefully one day, a more permanent place. Gut Level 3.0 is hosting a party on December 17th at a "special spot in the city," Beres added. Details will be released in the coming week. Workshops and a social calendar for dates across December are also being announced shortly. Here's Gut Level's Instagram post.
