  • Hopkins Creek will no longer go ahead this weekend. The Victoria festival made the announcement on Instagram earlier today, November 22nd, citing adverse weather conditions. "Life never claimed to be fair," said the post. "Despite the noble effort of our build team this week battling gale force wind, sideways rain, hail and even snow, Mother Nature has delivered her unrelenting final word. Despite consultation with council, emergency services and local stakeholders over the past month, 80 millimetres of rain in the past 72 hours has deteriorated the festival site." For what would have been its sixth edition, Hopkins Creek was set to welcome artists such as Barbara Boeing, Idjut Boys and Mama Snake to a volcanic crater outside the small town of Tatyoon. A number of DJs and attendees have since replied to the post voicing their support for Hopkins Creek. "Devastating," said John Gomez, who was also due to perform this year. "Ultra feelings of gratitude for the team after so much hard work and vision." Record label Efficient Space wrote: "So heartbreaking. Infinite respect for trying everything possible to get us together." The Australian festival circuit has been plagued by weather-induced cancellations over the last few months. New South Wales' Strawberry Fields made the decision to cancel due to flooding risks, with the nearby Murray River higher than the team had seen it in a decade. Others that have had to cancel across 2022 include 2 degrees, Splendour in the Grass, This That Festival, Yours and Owls and Jungle Love. "It’s been totally devastating," Strawberry Fields director Tara Benney previously told the Sydney Morning Herald. "If I'm being completely honest, it's just a massive moment for us all to stop and reflect on what is happening to our planet." Read the full Instagram post from Hopkins Creek.
