- Out now, "The Dawn Of Everything (Jin,Jiyan,Azadi)" is dedicated to the people of Iran.
Lafawndah has released a new single in support of women in Iran.
Out on Friday, November 4th, "The Dawn Of Everything (Jin,Jiyan,Azadi)" is raising funds for The Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI), with all proceeds going to the not-for-profit organisation.
The Paris-born, half-Iranian artist co-wrote the song with Cecile Believe, and it was produced by Happa, who is also half Iranian. The artwork is by Iranian artist Mamali Shahafi.
The Bandcamp-only release precedes Lafawndah's performance at London's Royal Festival Hall on November 16th as part of a non-profit show in support of women in Iran, who continue to campaign for their rights and freedoms following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody on September 16th.
"This song was born between unlearning the past and watching the future unfold," said Lafawndah. "It's dedicated to the people of Iran and their bravery in rising up after the murder of Jina Amini. A lullaby for the tremors that rise when a new life starts to feel possible against all odds—Jin Jiyan Azadi."
It's not the first time Lafawndah has used her music to support a charitable project. She previously contributed to It's Not Complicated, a compilation raising funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians and community platform Grassroots Al-Quds.
Founded in 2008 and headquartered in New York, CHRI is an independent and non-partisan organisation researching and documenting human rights violations throughout Iran.
