  • US singer-songwriter Joyce Sims has died aged 63. Miami DJ and promoter CJ Carlos broke the news on Facebook on Saturday, October 15th. The cause of death remains unclear. "Having spoken to her immediate family tonight, it's with a heavy heart that I post this news," he wrote. "Joyce Sims has passed away. Joyce was an amazing singer-songwriter who had so many hits in the '80s [...] My heart goes out to her partner Errol and their children and close family." Born in Rochester, New York, in 1959, Sims signed to Sleeping Bag Records, the label co-run by Arthur Russell. Her first hit single was "(You Are My) All and All," an influential freestyle track produced by Kurtis Mantronik that peaked at #6 in the US Dance chart in 1986. They would continue to collaborate regularly over the next few years, most prominently with UK hit "Come Into My Life" in 1987. Her output struck a chord with the nascent British acid house scene, and Sims performed at The Haçienda the same year. Later in her career, Sims collaborated with Junior Vasquez on 2006 single "What the World Needs Now is Love," released a greatest hits album in 2012 and toured the UK as recently as this August, playing in London, Manchester and Garon Park in Southend-On-Sea.
